How to Craft and Submit a Winning Book Proposal in 4 Weeks

Facilitator: Badia Ahad, PhD

You may have a completed dissertation, a few rough book chapters, or even journal articles you’d like to transform into a coherent book project—but where do you start? The path to getting your book published begins with a clear, well-crafted and persuasive proposal. In this workshop, you will be guided through a step-by-step process to complete your book proposal within four weeks, learn how to translate your research projects for a broader market, and receive invaluable advice about how to approach acquisition editors at academic presses. This Multi-Week Course will also feature a one hour Q&A with Kate Wahl, Editor-in-Chief at Stanford University Press.

Badia Sahar Ahad, PhD, is Associate Professor of English and Director of Undergraduate Programs in English at Loyola University Chicago and is the author of Freud Upside Down: African-American Literature and Psychoanalytic Culture (U of Illinois Press, 2010). Her areas of specialization are post-World War II African American literature, cultural studies, the history of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic theory. Currently, Badia is a Faculty Success Program Coach as well as the NCFDD’s Training Director.

What Memeber's Are Saying:

Dear Badia,

I wanted to tell you how incredibly useful this workshop has been in breaking down the writing of a proposal into clear and finite steps.  Last semester, I started to work on proposing my second book and got really stuck even though I had several models, including my own.  The workshop has given me concrete steps to untangle myself… I feel very encouraged about having a draft of the proposal ready to go out to my writing group.  I have really admired your ability to pull out and clarify the stakes in a proposal. Thank you!
