Being Lazy & Slowing Down Without Guilt: Centering One’s Body & Self-care

facilitator: Riyad Shahjahan, PhD and Kimine Mayuzumi, PhD

This three-week workshop focused on appreciating the tremendous benefits of slowing down and self-care inside/outside the academy. Through weekly calls and exercises, participants will develop skills to center their bodies and slow down without feeling guilty. At the end of this experience, participants will redefine time and meaning of life, develop rituals of slowing down, plan their community/network of support, and strategize one’s sense of worthiness (i.e. one’s body and self-care) in the advent of digital life. Each of these key course components will be chosen and designed by participants to increase their own sense of worthiness and self-care, while also reducing time for shame and guilty feelings. This course is ideal for new or experienced graduate students and scholars who desire to have improved work-life balance and tend to feel guilty when not working.
