Welcome to the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity!
We hope that you find this online learning center provides exactly what you are seeking: training, support, community and everything you need to make the changes you desire. Most new faculty members we know learned a lot about research in graduate school, but find themselves in their first academic position with very little training in how to actually do their job as a professor. We constantly hear from new faculty who:
  • Struggle to manage their time and want to create more work-life balance in their daily lives,
  • Feel stuck in their writing and want to figure out how to be more productive,
  • Suffer from anxiety around writing and want to move forward on their intellectual projects, free from guilt, fear, and resistance,
  • Feel isolated and want to connect to communities of support
  • Are tired of the drama in their department and want to learn how to have healthy conflict and resolve issues with those who have more power (senior faculty) and those who have less power (students)
  • Feel exhausted and want to find a way to be a successful teacher and researcher without sacrificing their physical and emotional health or their relationships
  • Are questioning their professional path and want more than anything to rediscover their passion

If any of those things sound familiar, then you are a typical new faculty member! And you are exactly who this center is designed to serve. Our work is dedicated to connecting new faculty members with their personal power: the power to choose how they spend their time each day, power over the production of their ideas, power over their writing behavior and attitudes, and power over how they manage their professional identity and relationships. Our goal is to help each of our members find their power and use it to create a deeply fulfilling professional and personal life.

To that end, we provide support for graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and faculty members who want to make important changes in their lives. This support comes in the form of on-site workshops, the weekly Monday Motivator, the E-Mentoring Community, and our semester-based Faculty Success Program. Whether you’re an individual who is ready to move in a new direction in your professional life, or an administrator who wants to provide additional resources for your graduate students and faculty members, we look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
