February Newsletter

Welcome Criticism

I don't know about you, but 2015 is all about exponential growth at the NCFDD. In that spirit, I'm in the midst of a 13-campus tour to meet with new Institutional Members, connect with our existing members, and hug as many of my FSP Alumni as possible (that’s me with Professor Vicki Lawrence from the University of Michigan, Flint). While winter travel is always challenging, it has been an honor and privilege to connect with so many of you in person.

All of the growth that we’ve experienced recently at  NCFDD is the result of a powerful pattern I learned from one of my mentors: actively seek out opportunities to serve others, listen to people’s needs, and provide the support and accountability mechanisms that will keep all of our members moving forward. So this month, I want to ask you: how can we support your growth? What information, resources, and/or community do you need to work at your highest potential? And what accountability structures do you have in place to keep growing?

We love serving you so we've got lots of new opportunities for you to stretch and grow. Dr. Joshua Schimel will join us for a new guest expert workshop: How to Write Proposals That Get Funded (And Papers That Get Cited) and by popular demand, Margarita Mooney will be offering a multi-week course: Developing A Strategic Plan to Use Social Media To Enhance Scholarship.

Maybe your growth edge is looking for a new job (if so, check out our Career Center), maybe it's new connections (join the NCFDD community on social media), maybe it's time learn how to Welcome Criticism (check out our feature article). If you want to connect with me live, I'll be giving campus workshops this month at UCLA, Davidson College, Depaul University and California Lutheran University. And finally, because we keep growing as an organization we want to introduce you this month to our newest full time FSP Coach (Jaime Romo), our newest Institutional Member (Case Western Reserve University), and one of our Faculty Success Program Alumni (Deborah Bieler).

I hope our February Newsletter provides you with lots of opportunities to stretch, grow, and be supported in new ways!
