March Newsletter

I’m smack in the middle of my heavy travel season, jumping from campus to campus each week so I can work face-to-face with faculty members. I’m often asked: How is it possible to keep up such a hectic travel schedule? Honestly it’s quite simple: I’m supported by a productive and dedicated team. Between the NCFDD’s core team and our coaching staff, I’m able to devote most of my working hours to doing what I love: helping faculty members learn how to thrive in the Academy.

I can’t help but ask: Are you thriving? Do you currently have the support you need to have both explosive productivity and a full life beyond your campus? When you think about your current support network, are you getting all of your needs met? And if not, what would it take for you to take a step forward this month to get whatever you need to spend increasing amounts of time each day doing what you do best?

If you feel like you’re closer to surviving than thriving, that’s okay. We’ve created several opportunities this month for you to develop new skills, make new connections, and envision new ways to boost your productivity and lower your stress.

First and foremost, this month’s training webinars will get straight to the heart of increasing your writing: 1) Michelle Boyd (University of Illinois, Chicago) will be teaching a guest expert webinar on how to Discover a Writing Process that Works for You and 2) I’ll be teaching our monthly core curriculum webinar on How to Develop A Daily Writing Practice. If what you need is more community, support and accountability, consider joining our Faculty Success Program (registration opens March 30th) and read how Glenda Flores’ (University of California, Irvine) FSP experience has helped her to thrive.

To expand your influence and impact, this month’s feature article by Margarita Mooney (Yale University) discusses Branding Scholarly Passion on Social Media in preparation for her multi-week course (starting March 17th) on Developing a Strategic Plan to Use Social Media to Enhance Scholarship. We also want to introduce you to our newest Institutional Member: the University of California, Merced and to NCFDD’s Ruben Jimenez, our Campus Workshop Coordinator. Finally, if you want to experience a direct community of support, I'll be giving campus workshops this month at Oregon State University and Shippensburg University.

I hope the idea of thriving in the Academy is an exciting one! And I hope that our March Newsletter contains exactly what you need to take the next step in that direction!
