Dissertation Success Program

This is just a quick message to remind you that registration for the Dissertation Success Program ends Friday, May 13th!

We've received lots of questions about the Dissertation Success Program, so we thought we would also take this opportunity to answer the most common questions we've received. I wanted to make sure you had them before registration ends.

If you (or someone you know) would benefit from this program, please consider forwarding this message to them as well.

What is the Dissertation Success Program?

The Dissertation Success Program is a 12-week intensive writing program for graduate students who are focused on finishing their dissertations. For full details on what the program entails, how it works, and tuition and registration information, click here.

Who can participate in the Dissertation Success Program?

To participate in the program, you must be actively writing your dissertation or planning to begin in the very near future.

I’m just starting my dissertation, will this program be useful?

If you're still taking graduate courses or haven't yet defended your dissertation proposal, you may want to wait until you're actually writing the dissertation to join the program. The program is designed with the dissertation in mind, so you will get the most out of it if you are writing your dissertation during the program.

I only have a few months before my dissertation due, should I consider this program?

If you already have a clear writing plan, a daily writing practice, and all the mentoring and support you'll need to finish, there's no reason to join. However if you feel unsupported, unclear, or stressed about what work needs to be completed or how you'll get it all done, then the Dissertation Success Program is a great fit for you.

This sounds great, but I work in _________________ (insert your discipline) and our work is completely different than any other academic field so this program probably can't help people like me.

The Dissertation Success Program is designed to address the foundational challenges that underlie academic work, such as:

  • Develop and maintain a daily writing routine
  • Systematically plan daily writing goals
  • Understand the writing process
  • Develop positive writing rituals
  • Identify and overcome academic perfectionism
  • Track research and writing time for ongoing self-assessment
  • Belong to a community of supportive and productive academic writers
  • Create a local and extended network of peer-mentors for long-term success

I would love to participate in this program, it's EXACTLY what I need! But I don't have any money?! How do people pay for this?

Many of the participants in the Dissertation Success Program are supported by their Advisor, Department, College, University, or Graduate School. If you want to participate but don't have your own funds available, try asking someone at your university. In fact, we've designed an entire training (we call it "Making the Ask") to walk you through a step-by-step process that has helped many faculty members raise the funds to participate in the Faculty Success Program. We'll also be happy to supply you with templates and contact information for Dissertation Success Program alumni on your campus who can help you.

Here's the bottom line…

If you:

  1. didn't accomplish your writing goals this year,
  2. are walking into the summer feeling disappointed, frustrated, exhausted, and panicked that time is flying by without making progress on your dissertation, and/or,
  3. can't afford to have another summer end without significant progress on your dissertation,

then consider joining us.

I wouldn't normally be this audacious, but I see one transformation after another in the Dissertation Success Program: explosive productivity, overcoming and breaking through psychological blocks, mentoring networks expanded, stress reduced, dissertations completed and long-dreamed of graduations become reality.

Ultimately, I'm inviting you to make significant change in your relationship to your dissertation. If you're ready to have a break-through, click here to join us. And if you're not, no problem (just please consider forwarding this email to someone who would benefit from intensive and supportive writing community)!

What Graduate Students are Saying About the Dissertation Success Program
"I would highly recommend the course for students who need help getting through the dissertation process."

"I found the Dissertation Success Program to be very helpful, because I was working with a group of folks who were at the same place I was in the doctoral process and they understood my struggle. The weekly homework and messages helped me reframe the way I saw this process. Seeing others successfully propose and defend during the program was a great encouragement to me. I would highly recommend the course for students who need help getting through the dissertation process."
